Anxiety, depression & emotional regulation

Make sense of what your mind and nervous system are trying to manage.

Anxiety and low mood can affect your thoughts, body, relationships, motivation, and sense of possibility. Therapy offers a space to understand what keeps the cycle going and develop tools that support steadiness without dismissing the experiences underneath it.

How therapy may help

Insight matters most when it creates more choice.

We look at the full cycle—thoughts, emotions, behaviours, relationships, environment, and nervous-system responses—so that coping becomes more than telling yourself to calm down.

01

Understand the signal

Identify triggers, beliefs, unmet needs, and protective responses without treating your emotions as the enemy.

02

Regulate with intention

Develop practical strategies for grounding, emotional tolerance, boundaries, behavioural activation, and recovering after difficult moments.

03

Create a different pattern

Practise responses that support your values and wellbeing instead of reinforcing avoidance, rumination, or shutdown.

A flexible, integrative approach

Common questions

A little clarity before you begin.

Will therapy only focus on coping strategies?+

No. Practical tools can help, but we can also explore the experiences, beliefs, relationships, and patterns that may be contributing to the distress.

What if I shut down when trying to explain how I feel?+

You do not need to communicate perfectly. We can slow the process down and use language, reflection, body awareness, or creative approaches that feel accessible to you.

Is this a crisis service?+

No. LAC Psychotherapy is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or visit your nearest emergency department.
